PlentyOfFish Review
PlentyOfFish is a completely free internet dating service with a large membership base of people between the ages of 18 to 80 years old. Based in North America, this free dating site is available to members worldwide. PlentyOfFish is a completely free internet dating service that caters for everyone from 18-80. It is based in North America, but is available to members worldwide. Most of the users are from the United States, Canada and increasingly the United Kingdom.
The main advantage of this site compared to other well known online dating sites such as eHarmony is that PlentyOfFish is a completely free dating service for all its features and there is no membership fees whatsoever. On the front page of the site you can view the list of the latest online members and newly registered users.
The website's search feature offers the ability to search the members list of users by their location, age, description and type of relationship wanted. You can also view people's photos in the search results. Meanwhile, the “Rate people” section of the site allows people to rate photos of members from 1 to 10, with 10 being a “Great Catch”. Any person who wants to have his/her photo rated can submit a photo for free. A list of the 500 Hottest People is also available for your viewing pleasure. Like Adult FriendFinder there is an adult dating element to the website, however, the majority of people are looking for friendship or love.
The site also has community forums for its members to tackle different topics such as love, dating, recipes, and of course sex. Moreover, there is also a schedule of events such as speed dating meet-ups. The site also gives dating advice and online dating help to members and visitors.

Its free, so what have you got to lose?
I think plentyoffish does a lot of things considerably better than the "big" paid membership dating sites, but because it is free, there is a lot of people who are not serious about meeting people for relationships.
#2 One thing I dislike about
Brian on 02/03/2007
One thing I dislike about Plenty Of Fish is that they don't resize the images proportionately so you end up seeing all these skewed faces which can be a little frightening.
Also, alot of the people lye in their profiles, well, because it's a free internet dating site, people aren't worried about wasting money and anyone signs up and posts whatever they want.

#5 I know you are not supposed
Sean Lewis on 02/27/2007
I know you are not supposed to complain about something that is free but Plentyoffish has some serious problems that really make it quite an unpleasant place to use.
First of all don’t expect to be treated with any degree of equality by the sites owners or the Canadian and American moderators of it. Being a North American site, it is bias towards their way of life and to their sense of humour (Or lack of one) and being from the UK, if you ever cross the mods in any way that is that no leave for appeal at their court.
A ruling was recently brought in where all photos used on the site had to be fully framed face shots and not of pets artistic photos etc. Now I can hear a lot of folks saying “So what! I want to date a person not a pet” very true and I agree but it was a rule that was ONLY imposed on the UK users.
The second major problem with the site is the forums. Once again it would seem to anyone who spends any time reading the forums that the mods come down on posters not from North America with an iron hand in a steel glove. Posters vanish from the forums banned for up to 3 years for (as it was revealed to me from a number of sources) only questioning a mod re a ruling. Once again rules are imposed on UK users that are not enforced on the US or Canada.
All in all most of the UK users questioned have stated that whilst the site is free, the bias rulings from the management leave no room for you to freely express your true personality.

Rosebud on 02/27/2007
Hi,
I only joined this site last night, Feb. 27. I can truly say, it is a welcome feeling to be able to chat freely with other people without having to pay. It's a wonderful service for those who are people oriented and are not limited to their interactions with others. Thank you.

Hi,
Yesterday I was all excited about this site. Today, I looked at my profile and I at a loss how my porfile could have been so wrong. Is there a cross sometimes between profiles. You have to be very careful. Today, I noticed that I am a drug user when, in fact, I have never used it and I don't mean ordinary medication. Also my height read 5'11" a far cry from 5'1". My birth sign is leo and I am 56 years. A lot went wrong. Hope some care will be exercised next time. Thank you,
Rosebud.

Georgina on 05/28/2007
I think PlentyOfFish is a nice place to dip your toe into the online dating scene because it is free and allows you to contact people whenever you like with no need to worry about the cost of doing so.
I have found the site kind of hard to use and there isn't as many people who are serious about looking for a meaniningful relationship as I would like.
MY VERDICT?: Try PlentyOfFish and then go and use eHarmony or Lavalife!
#10 If this were a paid for site
William on 08/09/2007
If this were a paid for site i would say caveat emptor!! However its free..... But just remember all businesses are in business to make money. Plenty Of Fish Creator Mr Markus Frind (BIG BROTHER) is allegedly raking in significant $$$ from advertising revenue.( He needs those HITS ).
Through the course of my life i have found that there are those people who believe "the best things in life are free" yet others say "you get what you pay for". The bitterness of a poor quality service! can linger longer than the sweetness of a cheap price. To anybody brave enough to enter the POF world and dip their toe so to speak,DO NOT EXPECT THE LAWS OF KARMA TO APPLY.(what you put in might not be what you get back). There is a significant Majick contingent...openly casting spells in latin and sending pictures of witches and pentagrams...Ladies looking for business in the UK. US based telephone hookers plying secret premium rate international numbers (In some countries and mediums that would be looked into). Since the assylums closed its been a case of care in the community, you may find that community is POF.
I want all the Ladies out there to know the days of Romance and gallantry are not forgotton however i found myself booted from the site for sending a picture of a bunch of roses to someone who needed cheering up.... c'est la vie.
A recent rule change now dictates all photos used on the site have to be fully framed face shots....Discrimination applies to uk only.....(lol)make of this what you will.
Canada and UK two great nations separated by one common language humour. As the invigilator and creator of this medium was reported to only work two hours a day from his bedroom i would like to recommend he read the book "HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE" by Dale Carnegie. I understand it is good for people hoping to find success in the human relations field.

I was on the site for two months. I was able to chat to many people. However too many false profiles. If you report too many of them your profile got deleted.
#12 I am extremely disappointed
Alissa on 10/04/2007
I am extremely disappointed with POF... "The best free dating site" is nothing more than a usability nightmare. The community of people put little-to-no effort in their profiles, searching for the same parameters in basic & advanced yeilds different results, and the forum mods are unfriendly, unhelpful, and all-around useless.
Everybody on this site carries the attitude "It's free, you get what you pay for"... and that's exactly what's wrong with it. Nobody, not even the mods or admins, take it seriously.

Markus you are really mean!I really hope you read this! You deleted profiles from Romania and even you dare to block all the profiles now coming from Romania. Why?Are you against Romania??!!You advertise your website as free and can you answer us why you delete profiles only based on the fact somebody coming from East Europe?!
OK, you will mention about scammers, but to block everybody from Romania is a crime. I hope Canada authorities will see this. I hope your website will dissapear very soon, because anybody can create a website with a stupid name and also is plenty of websites right!
Look for a job soon because you will need!

Nicole on 11/14/2007
Never again, I was stalked and harrassed by someone on Plentyoffish, I reported their profile and the site did not delete this persons account or do anything to protect me. Also I noticed that alot of people use this site to troll for sex. I had to delete my profile from plentyoffish. I could not deal with the IM's and emails asking for naked pictures and sexual favors. Maybe I should of sent them to adult friend finder!!
#17 Why on this earth do people
Micheal Iskra on 11/20/2007
Why on this earth do people use POF is beyond logic. The dating part of it is dreadful. Most of the people you will find in there are just too cheap to a small amount per month to meet posters who are actually interested in meeting others. Because it’s free, you get liars, crooks, thieves and even sexual predators. All they need is software to hide their IP’s and move on to their victims.
As of my past experiences with POF, I have not met one person who was even remotely close to be honest. That’s probably why one will read so many profiles that claims that they are no longer interested in meeting people from POF and that they use it just for the Forums.
Awww the FORUMS! Forums controlled by moderators who are extremely biased in regards to who will get ban or not. In a past experienced, I saw that OP literally insult a poster on many occasions and once the poster had enough, he called the OP an i diot. Guess what? The poster was banned! How's that for fair play?
I sent an email a few days later asking the reasons for this moderator to ban people while some whom obviously should’ve been before, and he just answered that rules are rules with a link to the site.
This is a gestapo type of forums. They are VERY selective in who stays and who goes not to mention the little fact that some looses their complete profile without any explanations whatsoever. If you were in contact with someone, you just lost her or him.
Also you will notice in the forums that it’s always the same posts that keeps on coming back over and over and over again. Why do people continue to use them is just mind boggling.
Let’s not forget the fact that POF can delete a post or better yet, the thread without any warning whatsoever and even worst…NO REASONS!
I truly dont understand that a service (even if free) can delete anyones profile at any time without reasons. One cant supply a service and play God with it…as far as I am concerned anyway. Perhaps there’s internet regulations out there that would prevent the Nazi owner and his SS troops/moderators…perhaps from different countries? Anyway, I think it’s worth checking and if they are out there, slap POF with them and get that site out of service.
Stay away from Plentyoffish people. I promise you that you will NEVER get anything other than frustration out of it.

I tried POF several times but all I got was a run around. Several times a women would send me an e-mail but everytime I asked for a phone number or tried to meet somewhere in a plubic setting I never got anywhere. It seemed to me that everyone just wanted to send notes back and forth through e-mail and no one was seriously interested in dating. It was a waste of time.
#19 I have a love/hate
Jill on 11/11/2009
I have a love/hate relationship with POF. I have tried it on and off for three years. Yes, there are scammers/liars/cheaters but they are on the other sites too, just better hidden and better able to keep a good lie going. In my experience, the majority in the dating world are out to see what they can get off of someone else...whether it be money, free food, sex, or someone to starve off lonliness....the same as other sites, though. POF is free. I entered there knowing the truth behind the facade. What is worse, I wonder....walking into the lion's den to meet your death or doing so knowing you paid to do it?
As for the love side of the coin, it's a great site, if you are low income, looking for the unemployed, living on welfare/SSI, living with parents, running from child support arrears individuals. The real daters with class, education, money will not be on this site. The will be on eHarmony or Match. So keep the lower income ppl on the POF site and out of the real dating sites. If one can't afford a dating site, one can't afford even half of a date.

Mike on 02/12/2010
I put up a profile with a pic of my fat self and had many many wimen turn me down.I'd right them poems and flirt and they would never respond.I'd only get responces from fat ugly chicks that were unemployed.
So I went to the gay section of pof and downloaded a gay guys picture. He was really good looking and had a majourly buffed body and my responces increased 100 percent.
I flirted and was nuaghty with all these really hot wimen and they loved me,or,ah, the gay guy.Anyways, it was a lot of fun before they deleted my profile picture for being shirtless.
Even tho all these hot wimen were into talking to me I couldn't get up the nerve to ask them out cause really I'm just a fat guy living in my moms basement at the ripe old age of forty.ha ha

Faust on 02/27/2010
I tried plentyoffish.com and in the 6 six months that I've been online only got 3 responces from what I found level of education means zip there and lately they have enforced the requirement that you need to list how much money you make or you will be excluded from searches. As for my experience there it's been horrible and wasted alot of my time.
They also have alot of problems I.T. related such as: poor thought out advanced search options, and a HUGE security problem where they send reminder e-mails with the users passwords all in plain text everytime they wish to remind you. Trolls rule their forums and instead of the trolls posts being deleted the entire thread gets deleted.

#26 POF Investigation
Anonymous on 07/29/2010
I am a journalist and have heard from several sources that there are undercover agents on POF establishing fraud cases againist those members who claim they are looking for serious relationships but in reality are so-called "serial daters." The fraud comes in for accepting things of value (dates, dinners etc) under false pretenses. They are also after married people who pose as single or divorced. My suggestion is if you claim to be serious about finding someone, be serious and don't pose as being single if you're not!!!!!

Because it's free people take advantage of fake profiles/pics.. and alot are just on there for entertainment. I'm not yet ready to pay of a service but can see the benefits of serious people who put up $$ where there mouth is. Post on POF with caution and hope for the best :) Happy dating people...

#30 This is not a very good site at all when it comes to online
Brett on 03/24/2010
This is not a very good site at all when it comes to online dating. You would thing being free was actually a good thing but in the case of this site it doesn’t seem to be. For starters there are WAY too many men on this site the ratio of men to women is extremely skewed and unbalanced. This is compounded by the fact that this is also a favorite site for male players, a.k.a. guys that are already in a relationship or married. So if you are a single honest guy looking you have to not only compete with the other single guys, but also the players that are muddying up the water. This is one reason why there is so many more men than women.
If you’re a guy expect to get very very few responses back unless you are tall and well well above average looking. It does not matter what type of letter you write your response rate will be extremely low. I feel the quality of women on this site is below some of the other sites as well. I just see way too many women using provocative images and poorly done profiles all around. All in all this is not a very good dating site and I would not invest a lot of time into it especially if you are a guy.

#32 Like all other dating sites,
Onlinedatebamboozled on 04/16/2010
Like all other dating sites, all you’ll encounter here are semi attractive gals who hold high standards that are though the roof. You’ll only get thier attention if you resemble their hollywood fantasy such Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattenson, Brad Pitt, or George Clooney. For the skanky uneducated good looking hoes at this site, they’ll want the Jersey Shore types. IF your a decent looking guy who’s in shape, can complete a sentence, and makes a decent living working at a white collar job, dont expect to land a good looking girl because to them your nothing special. Otherwise all you’ll be attracting here is middle age divorced single mothers or younger girls that are not above a 5 rating who are more suited to date ordinary dorks without game or overweight guys

wisteria on 05/04/2010
marcus needs to be held accountable for the horrible people who slip through the cracks and get on sites like his — last november, a supposedly marketing executive contacted me and invited me to go see 2012 with all of our children — didn’t so much mind paying my own share of the bill, but he was too cheap to buy popcorn, soda, or candy for his own kids, so i have to give up my own and offer to his boys — then, it finally leaks out that he is unemployed, on welfare, and owes his ex-wife over $50,000 in back child support — this information only surfaced after i researched him — last straw, he planned a big skiing trip for all of us, but, at the last minute, came over to my house on his hands and knees begging me for $250 to pay for the trip — what a fricking loser!!! i’ve always had a big heart and tried to be as generous as possible, but coming across manipulative people like this makes me wonder if it is even worth it — i’ve reported pof to the FTC for a shoddy business practice and putting people at risk of personal harm, as i finally had to go to court and getting a protective order entered on this guy — hearing is next week, so i hope i get the plenary order so i don’t have to worry about his stalking me — and all thanks to POF!!!

#36 I just read the last few comments,
sally on 05/30/2010
I just read the last few comments, as they are the most recent. Wisteria? You need to give your head a shake!! This could happen on ANY website. There are losers everywhere; it’s up to YOU to figure these sorts of things out about the person before you meet them. Obviously he was dishonest, but for the simple fact you took all your kids to see a movie together and you had to pay on that first day, HELLO!!! big sign! it’s your own stupidity that got you into that mess. Was that your first outing with the person? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard! you don’t get all the kids together with a complete stranger on the first or even the second or third outing, unless you’re totally hitting it off, the guy’s a gentleman AND He’s offered to pay the bill or at least covered his half of it up until that point. It sounds to me like you do not have as much experience with meeting people online and according to this awful example, I would highly recommend you avoid it from here on out. The paying sites are no different. I’ve tried a few, and the people on POF are no different. Again, I can’t stress enough how careful you have to be in who you choose to meet up in person. I’ve spent thousands of hours chatting and emailing people since I Was a teenager, and every single person I have met in person has been exactly who I thought they were. Use some common sense, and stop blaming the creators of a free website when things didnt go the way you thought they should. People lie. Lesson Learned I hope!

sally on 05/30/2010
P.S.
I respect the creators of POF so much for putting in a huge amount of effort to making POF as successful and enjoyable as possible. They are always looking for new ways to improve the overall features and purpose of the website. Not everyone IS looking for a serious relationship who joins POF. That doesn’t mean they don’t have a right to be there. And if you take the time, as with any website, to properly fill out your own profile and ideal match criteria, POF does the same, if not more, than the paid websites to ensure they filter through members to help ensure the best results. It’s up to the user to decide if they agree or not or want to leave it up to fate. It comes down to chemistry, no matter how you break it up. And because POF is still free, i believe my chances of meeting someone on there are very high. Who doesnt like free?
Thanks Markus!

In my area, POF has lots of losers…….. it could be co-incidence but the odds are against it. Lots of men out of work and out of motivation as well. Pictures are tiny and scewed and just plain strange. Men’s expectations of hot as heck women when they themselves are well, let’s just say they aint Johnny Depp yet they want Nicole Kidman. It is free, so go ahead and chat. But if you want quality, don’t waste your time. I pulled my profile after two weeks – it was too frustrating to deal with all the nonsense. Good luck searching – everyone. Somewhere there is a decent man for for me but he wasn’t on POF…

Been off and on Plentyoffish for a couple of years.I met just one guy off of there and that was enough for me.Too many liars and players on there.Men saying they want to date you but are on there talking to 20 others and on top of that on about every other website you can name. The story changes after you have met someone. You find out their picture isn’t current, they smoke now and they didn’t before, they have a total of 3 kids now instead of 1 and their parents are crazy and you get slammed with all of this after the date went good no top of the guy saying”I guess I’m like everyone else on here,I don’t know what I’m looking for.” Then talking about the good ole “ex” and throwing her in your face. The guy might as well slap me and get it over with then tell me all that****.

Mae on 07/12/2010
I had a love/hate relationship with plentyoffish and it’s purely hate now. First time I put full body pictures and got one married man after another looking for a mistress. Then for some lonely reason I tried just face pictures and thought I was responding with men wanting some thing more until they meet me in person and it was one freakn mess after another trying to bed me after the first night. Just seems like a lot of players looking for another notch on their bed post. Watch out for the young ones who claim they need emotional support and attention; what he really is saying is he needs what’s between your legs and maybe a hot meal that you end up paying for because his fake debit card doesn’t work.
All though I’m not perfect I am honest but on this site you have sixty year old men posting pics of themselves when they were thirty. The pervs asking for nude pics. Weirdos trying to marry you after the first date; and just cause I’m a single mom doesn’t mean I’m desperate as my ex does take care of his children. So I’m not looking for a “baby daddy”. If it works for you then so be; best of luck to ya. However, I stay far away from PlentyofFish!

#44 Plentyoffish is full of male players and married men.
shar22 on 07/13/2010
Plentyoffish is full of male players and married men. Its free and a lot of the men on there think if they can post a free profile then maybe they can get free sex too. I met a rotten german player off that site andy12345a who uses the site to get cheap selfish sex for himself. He has no interest in dating but he lies and says he is looking to date. He will talk to you for a week or two then say he has a hour to come over are you spontaneous? lol. If you mention you meet in public places he says he has very little time to date because of his work or he will say he hates noisy public places. If he feels you are attractive enough his best offer is to meet over a “coffe” if you meet him most likely he will try and lure you into letting him come over and if you do, you will regret it. He will come over and immediately try getting you in bed. If you do dont expect any pleasure. It will last maybe 4 minutes then he immediately goes home. You will get another call or email maybe a week later but it will only be because he wants to do that again. lol. I had no idea he was like this untill after knowing him for 2 months then all the lies and stringing me along for 2 years while he chased other women. He finally put on his profile after 3 years that he does not want a relationship but he is still lying about his motives on the site. He claims he is looking to date but he has no interest in taking anyone on a date. The only interest he has is quick selfish sex.
Its the free sites that are making the dating world hard for women to find a decent man. Its just too easy for them to post a free profile up and target lonely attractive females as victims.

I have been on the site for a month or so. I am an attractive woman in my 40s. I have a good job, a nice home and alot to offer yet I get messages from low lifes. The few men that I contacted who I thought would be a good match for me, never responded. The forums are full of angry people. Its not just this site that has these problems though. Match.com is not much better. I have met a couple on there and both were losers. We need a new dating site. These ones have major flaws. Its very disappointing.
#46 pof is full of married men who are not happy with themselves
Anonymous on 08/24/2010
To many married guys looking for trouble, cuz they are not happy with themselves. If the guy likes you, he should contact you.. there should be no excuses like: I was out of town, my email wasn't working. He gets your phone number but does not call for a week or 2. Then he is too busy for you. Or is in a relationship. Would you want someone who is looking for someone to make them happy but can't end a relationship before starting a new one? Not this gal.
If these guys are so wonderful, they would have no need of POF. Won't go near a dating site ever again. I would rather meet a guy thru friends. A good friend will let you know if they are nice or just trash.

I am a single/unattached, never married, well-educated, well settled (house, car, loan free, etc.) 36 yrs old who looks 25-26 years old guy who loves to meet new people and share few laughs over engaging conversations about everything we can talk about under the Sun.
I always read the full profile and only if I feel the girl looks mature, educated with a bit of a fun/cheerful side/personality too then I write a personalized message to them. Most of them delete it even without reading it, some of them read it but not respond at all and very very few actually serious about meeting up or a meaningful conversation leading to something more serious. I have met a very select few from the site but got turned off the moment they said I was meeting them only because of their looks. Why would a women devalue herself by saying that? Is there nothing more to her then outer beauty? I stopped responding to their call/messages as I can't be with someone who is vain.
At the very least I believe people should read their emails and respond with "thank you but I don't think we are a match" or something like that. Is it so hard? And then these same women say we can't find any good guys? There is so much lack of courtesy and so many are just so cold! Why? We are not in a prison and I haven't hurt you or done anything to you or have any intentions to do so? Sometimes the reaction/response is disappointing and dehumanizing and makes you wonder what happened to the fun that we all experienced when we were in school/colleges and met new people and made new friends along the way? As adults we've become so complicated and created so many barriers...it's unfortunate.
