PlentyOfFish is a completely free internet dating service that caters for everyone from 18-80. It is based in North America, but is available to members worldwide. Most of the users are from the United States, Canada and increasingly the United Kingdom.

The main advantage of this site compared to other well known online dating sites such as eHarmony is that PlentyOfFish is a completely free dating service for all its features and there is no membership fees whatsoever. On the front page of the site you can view the list of the latest online members and newly registered users.

The website’s search feature offers the ability to search the members list of users by their location, age, description and type of relationship wanted. You can also view people’s photos in the search results. Meanwhile, the “Rate people” section of the site allows people to rate photos of members from 1 to 10, with 10 being a “Great Catch”. Any person who wants to have his/her photo rated can submit a photo for free. A list of the 500 Hottest People is also available for your viewing pleasure. Like Adult FriendFinder there is an adult dating element to the website, however, the majority of people are looking for friendship or love.

The Plenty Of Fish site also has community forums for its members to tackle different topics such as love, dating, recipes, and of course sex. Moreover, there is also a schedule of events such as speed dating meet-ups. The site also gives dating advice and online dating help to members and visitors.

Its free, so what have you got to lose?

I think plentyoffish does a lot of things considerably better than the “big” paid membership dating sites, but because it is free, there is a lot of people who are not serious about meeting people for relationships.

One thing I dislike about Plenty Of Fish is that they don’t resize the images proportionately so you end up seeing all these skewed faces which can be a little frightening.

Also, alot of the people lye in their profiles, well, because it’s a free internet dating site, people aren’t worried about wasting money and anyone signs up and posts whatever they want.

I know you are not supposed to complain about something that is free but Plentyoffish has some serious problems that really make it quite an unpleasant place to use.

First of all don’t expect to be treated with any degree of equality by the sites owners or the Canadian and American moderators of it. Being a North American site, it is bias towards their way of life and to their sense of humour (Or lack of one) and being from the UK, if you ever cross the mods in any way that is that no leave for appeal at their court.

A ruling was recently brought in where all photos used on the site had to be fully framed face shots and not of pets artistic photos etc. Now I can hear a lot of folks saying “So what! I want to date a person not a pet” very true and I agree but it was a rule that was ONLY imposed on the UK users.

The second major problem with the site is the forums. Once again it would seem to anyone who spends any time reading the forums that the mods come down on posters not from North America with an iron hand in a steel glove. Posters vanish from the forums banned for up to 3 years for (as it was revealed to me from a number of sources) only questioning a mod re a ruling. Once again rules are imposed on UK users that are not enforced on the US or Canada.

All in all most of the UK users questioned have stated that whilst the site is free, the bias rulings from the management leave no room for you to freely express your true personality.

Hi,

I only joined this site last night, Feb. 27. I can truly say, it is a welcome feeling to be able to chat freely with other people without having to pay. It’s a wonderful service for those who are people oriented and are not limited to their interactions with others. Thank you.

Hi,
Yesterday I was all excited about this site. Today, I looked at my profile and I at a loss how my porfile could have been so wrong. Is there a cross sometimes between profiles. You have to be very careful. Today, I noticed that I am a drug user when, in fact, I have never used it and I don’t mean ordinary medication. Also my height read 5′11″ a far cry from 5′1″. My birth sign is leo and I am 56 years. A lot went wrong. Hope some care will be exercised next time. Thank you,
Rosebud.

I think PlentyOfFish is a nice place to dip your toe into the online dating scene because it is free and allows you to contact people whenever you like with no need to worry about the cost of doing so.

I have found the site kind of hard to use and there isn’t as many people who are serious about looking for a meaniningful relationship as I would like.

MY VERDICT?: Try PlentyOfFish and then go and use eHarmony or Lavalife!

If this were a paid for site i would say caveat emptor!! However its free….. But just remember all businesses are in business to make money. Plenty Of Fish Creator Mr Markus Frind (BIG BROTHER) is allegedly raking in significant $$$ from advertising revenue.( He needs those HITS ).

Through the course of my life i have found that there are those people who believe “the best things in life are free” yet others say “you get what you pay for”. The bitterness of a poor quality service! can linger longer than the sweetness of a cheap price. To anybody brave enough to enter the POF world and dip their toe so to speak,DO NOT EXPECT THE LAWS OF KARMA TO APPLY.(what you put in might not be what you get back). There is a significant Majick contingent…openly casting spells in latin and sending pictures of witches and pentagrams…Ladies looking for business in the UK. US based telephone hookers plying secret premium rate international numbers (In some countries and mediums that would be looked into). Since the assylums closed its been a case of care in the community, you may find that community is POF.

I want all the Ladies out there to know the days of Romance and gallantry are not forgotton however i found myself booted from the site for sending a picture of a bunch of roses to someone who needed cheering up…. c’est la vie.

A recent rule change now dictates all photos used on the site have to be fully framed face shots….Discrimination applies to uk only…..(lol)make of this what you will.

Canada and UK two great nations separated by one common language humour. As the invigilator and creator of this medium was reported to only work two hours a day from his bedroom i would like to recommend he read the book “HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE” by Dale Carnegie. I understand it is good for people hoping to find success in the human relations field.

I was on the site for two months. I was able to chat to many people. However too many false profiles. If you report too many of them your profile got deleted.

I am extremely disappointed with POF… “The best free dating site” is nothing more than a usability nightmare. The community of people put little-to-no effort in their profiles, searching for the same parameters in basic & advanced yeilds different results, and the forum mods are unfriendly, unhelpful, and all-around useless.

Everybody on this site carries the attitude “It’s free, you get what you pay for”… and that’s exactly what’s wrong with it. Nobody, not even the mods or admins, take it seriously.

Markus you are really mean!I really hope you read this! You deleted profiles from Romania and even you dare to block all the profiles now coming from Romania. Why?Are you against Romania??!!You advertise your website as free and can you answer us why you delete profiles only based on the fact somebody coming from East Europe?!

OK, you will mention about scammers, but to block everybody from Romania is a crime. I hope Canada authorities will see this. I hope your website will dissapear very soon, because anybody can create a website with a stupid name and also is plenty of websites right!

Look for a job soon because you will need!

Never again, I was stalked and harrassed by someone on Plentyoffish, I reported their profile and the site did not delete this persons account or do anything to protect me. Also I noticed that alot of people use this site to troll for sex. I had to delete my profile from plentyoffish. I could not deal with the IM’s and emails asking for naked pictures and sexual favors. Maybe I should of sent them to adult friend finder!!

Why on this earth do people use POF is beyond logic. The dating part of it is dreadful. Most of the people you will find in there are just too cheap to a small amount per month to meet posters who are actually interested in meeting others. Because it’s free, you get liars, crooks, thieves and even sexual predators. All they need is software to hide their IP’s and move on to their victims.

As of my past experiences with POF, I have not met one person who was even remotely close to be honest. That’s probably why one will read so many profiles that claims that they are no longer interested in meeting people from POF and that they use it just for the Forums.

Awww the FORUMS! Forums controlled by moderators who are extremely biased in regards to who will get ban or not. In a past experienced, I saw that OP literally insult a poster on many occasions and once the poster had enough, he called the OP an i diot. Guess what? The poster was banned! How’s that for fair play?

I sent an email a few days later asking the reasons for this moderator to ban people while some whom obviously should’ve been before, and he just answered that rules are rules with a link to the site.

This is a gestapo type of forums. They are VERY selective in who stays and who goes not to mention the little fact that some looses their complete profile without any explanations whatsoever. If you were in contact with someone, you just lost her or him.

Also you will notice in the forums that it’s always the same posts that keeps on coming back over and over and over again. Why do people continue to use them is just mind boggling.

Let’s not forget the fact that POF can delete a post or better yet, the thread without any warning whatsoever and even worst…NO REASONS!

I truly dont understand that a service (even if free) can delete anyones profile at any time without reasons. One cant supply a service and play God with it…as far as I am concerned anyway. Perhaps there’s internet regulations out there that would prevent the Nazi owner and his SS troops/moderators…perhaps from different countries? Anyway, I think it’s worth checking and if they are out there, slap POF with them and get that site out of service.

Stay away from Plentyoffish people. I promise you that you will NEVER get anything other than frustration out of it.

I tried POF several times but all I got was a run around. Several times a women would send me an e-mail but everytime I asked for a phone number or tried to meet somewhere in a plubic setting I never got anywhere. It seemed to me that everyone just wanted to send notes back and forth through e-mail and no one was seriously interested in dating. It was a waste of time.

I have a love/hate relationship with POF. I have tried it on and off for three years. Yes, there are scammers/liars/cheaters but they are on the other sites too, just better hidden and better able to keep a good lie going. In my experience, the majority in the dating world are out to see what they can get off of someone else…whether it be money, free food, sex, or someone to starve off lonliness….the same as other sites, though. POF is free. I entered there knowing the truth behind the facade. What is worse, I wonder….walking into the lion’s den to meet your death or doing so knowing you paid to do it?

As for the love side of the coin, it’s a great site, if you are low income, looking for the unemployed, living on welfare/SSI, living with parents, running from child support arrears individuals. The real daters with class, education, money will not be on this site. The will be on eHarmony or Match. So keep the lower income ppl on the POF site and out of the real dating sites. If one can’t afford a dating site, one can’t afford even half of a date.

I put up a profile with a pic of my fat self and had many many wimen turn me down.I’d right them poems and flirt and they would never respond.I’d only get responces from fat ugly chicks that were unemployed.
So I went to the gay section of pof and downloaded a gay guys picture. He was really good looking and had a majourly buffed body and my responces increased 100 percent.
I flirted and was nuaghty with all these really hot wimen and they loved me,or,ah, the gay guy.Anyways, it was a lot of fun before they deleted my profile picture for being shirtless.
Even tho all these hot wimen were into talking to me I couldn’t get up the nerve to ask them out cause really I’m just a fat guy living in my moms basement at the ripe old age of forty.ha ha

I tried plentyoffish.com and in the 6 six months that I’ve been online only got 3 responces from what I found level of education means zip there and lately they have enforced the requirement that you need to list how much money you make or you will be excluded from searches. As for my experience there it’s been horrible and wasted alot of my time.

They also have alot of problems I.T. related such as: poor thought out advanced search options, and a HUGE security problem where they send reminder e-mails with the users passwords all in plain text everytime they wish to remind you. Trolls rule their forums and instead of the trolls posts being deleted the entire thread gets deleted.
